Our Pets

Pets are an extremely important part of our world.  We have a variety of animals and would welcome more if we had the space!

The first pet in our world was a very handsome labrador x kelpie from the animal shelter.  His name is Texas, he is 13 years old and he is the best dog in the world!  He is calm, attentive, protective and keeps a watchful eye on us at all times.  Texas arrived when he was about 8 months old.  Texas was here for the birth of all the children, and kept guard at the bedroom door for days afterwards.

Milky was the next arrival.  Milky showed up at 24 hours old.  Abandoned by her young, feral mother during a frightening storm, MGP had gone to bury her and heard a little squeak, so wrapped her up and brought her home.  We hand raised her, with lots of trips to the vet to ensure she was in good health, late night bottle feeds and lots of love, she survived and has been with us for 7 1/2 years.
Milky blessed us with 3 litters of kittens which was a fun and chaotic experience!  Milky was claimed by MGG1 as her own.

Next came Sugar, one of Milky's little kittens.  Sugar was so tiny and fluffy.  He was very timid compared to his bold and playful brothers and sisters.  Sugar struggled with epilepsy when he was a young kitten.  Some seizures would last hours.  It was very hard to watch, and vets didn't seem to have any useful suggestions.  One day  I was told of a cat who had seizures on a certain kind of cat food-which is the one we happened to be using.  We changed his diet and sure enough Sugar recovered and found his place in the world, as the cat of MGG3.

And then came Puss-Puss.  She chose us, lost and alone, crying and crying.  We tried to find out where she had come from with no luck.  So MGG4, who had just turned 1 called her Puss-Puss and cuddled her endlessly.  It is hard to refuse a cat who is so affectionate with toddlers, so Puss-Puss got to stay.

We currently only have one chicken, though a few months ago we had 15!  A fox came through and took them.  So now, Flora, a hand raised chicken sleeps at the back door.  She has started laying an egg a day-right as winter begins-after not laying for 6 or more months.  So MGG4 collects her egg and cooks and eats it right away.

We have a tank with 2 fish-Orange and Enki, and a pond with lots of fish.  We also have 2 tadpole ponds in the garden which bring many frogs in the spring and summer.
